Subject Configuration

Subject Configuration in the Schoolscan Report Card module defines how each subject is assessed and displayed in the final report card. It allows schools to control the grading approach per subject, ensuring that reporting aligns with teaching methods and learning objectives.

Schoolscan supports multiple reporting types, including:

  • Percentage-based grading – traditional numeric scoring and averages

  • Progressive assessment grading – skill- or criteria-based evaluation

  • Descriptive assessment grading – teacher-written qualitative descriptions for each assessment criteria

A key strength of Schoolscan is the ability to combine different reporting types within a single report card. For example, some subjects may use percentage-based grading, while some other subjects or soft skills may use progressive or descriptive assessments. This flexibility allows schools to present a more holistic and meaningful view of student performance.

By configuring subjects appropriately, teachers can focus on entering assessment data, while the system ensures that results are reflected accurately and consistently in the report card.

  • Suitable for subjects focusing on development, behaviour, or qualitative progress.

Use case: Subjects that require personalised feedback and observation.

Example Subject: Art

Assessment Criteria:

  • Creativity

  • Use of Materials

  • Participation

Teacher Comments (Example):

Creativity                 Shows strong creativity and originality in artwork.

Use of Material      Demonstrates improved control in using different materials

Participation          Participates actively during class activities.

Each criterion allows teachers to write individual comments, providing meaningful and personalised feedback in the report card.

Combining Multiple Grading Types in One Report Card

A single report card may include:

  • Percentage-based grading for academic subjects (e.g. Mathematics, Science)

  • Progressive assessment grading for skills-based subjects (e.g. Physical Education, Music)

  • Descriptive assessment grading for qualitative subjects (e.g. Art, Moral Studies)

This flexible approach enables schools to present a balanced and holistic view of student performance. This configuration ensures that each subject is assessed appropriately and displayed correctly in the final report card.
